Vorath Grievous

Submitted character story

The Ashen Wanderer

Vorath was once an ordinary man living in Mandalore. He was deeply fascinated by nature and spent much of his time experimenting with magical mushrooms and herbs in search of knowledge, visions, and spiritual enlightenment. During his years of study, he discovered and raised a black wolf whom he named **Fenrir**, caring for him and loving him as a brother.

One day, Vorath met the love of his life: **Galadriel**, a healer who served the city. She would watch over him during his astral journeys, ensuring that neither he nor anyone around him came to harm. She taught him the ways of white healing magic and mended his wounds with the power hidden within her enchanted hair. Together they shared a dream: to live in peace and save Mandalore from hunger, disease, and evil.

That dream was shattered when **Strahd**, the Vampire King, descended upon Mandalore. He laid siege to the city, slaughtering thousands of innocents in his quest to enslave its people and seize their food supplies. During the siege, Fenrir lost his life in a devastating blaze, and Galadriel fell in direct combat against Strahd while trying to save a group of children.

Vorath collapsed in despair as he witnessed the death of the woman he loved. Before fleeing, he kept a charred lock of her magical hair as a reminder of the one who had stolen everything from him.

As one of the few survivors of Mandalore, Vorath exiled himself to a remote cave. There, consumed by grief and despair, he surrendered completely to his mushrooms and magical herbs, losing himself in endless visions and astral journeys. Years passed in solitude. Through constant use of these substances, he gradually learned to control and develop the strange powers they granted him.

Eventually, after years of isolation, Vorath decided to end his life.

He gathered every mushroom and magical herb he possessed and brewed them into a single soup. Determined to die from the overdose, he drank it and fell into the deepest astral journey of his life, traveling through countless planes of existence.

Then, suddenly, everything went dark.

When he opened his eyes, he found himself standing in Hell, face to face with **Mephisto, the Demon King**.

Seeing how shattered and broken Vorath's soul had become, Mephisto offered him a bargain. He would grant Vorath unimaginable power and the opportunity to take revenge upon the Vampire King, burning down all who stood in his way with infernal fire.

In exchange, Mephisto would claim his soul.

Vorath accepted.

In that very moment, he awoke from the trance. His body erupted in flames, and his gaze became so dark that those who looked into his eyes felt as though they were staring directly into Hell itself.

As part of the pact, Mephisto also restored Fenrir to life, returning him as the companion and mount of his new champion.

Thus, **Vorath Grievous** became the Spirit of Vengeance sent by the Demon King Mephisto:

**THE ASHEN WANDERER.**

Riding upon the great wolf Fenrir, he wanders the world consumed by infernal fire, haunted by memories of Galadriel, and driven by a single purpose:

**Revenge.**

During our campaign, he died in battle, THE RISE OF THE PHOENIX

When I died, for the briefest moment, I believed I had finally found peace.

The voices fell silent.

The weight of my sins began to fade.

And standing before me... was her.

At last, we were together.

In her eyes, I saw everything I had ever loved. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, I felt rest.

But as I looked deeper into her gaze, her eyes began to burn.

The warmth vanished.

They turned into a violent crimson.

Her voice, once the sweetest melody I had ever known, twisted into a laugh I knew all too well.

A laugh that haunted my nightmares.

I was standing before Mephisto once again.

But this time, I was in Hell.

"You have failed me for the last time."

As he spoke those words, thousands of red-hot chains pierced my flesh and burrowed into my bones. Every mistake, every regret, every loss—I felt them all at once. He forced me to relive every moment of suffering until pain itself became meaningless.

He tortured me beyond exhaustion.

Then he spoke again.

"Who said we were finished? Get up."

I looked at him through the flames.

"I'm tired."

"Let me rest."

But Mephisto only smiled.

Then he showed me visions of Galadriel.

Visions I had never seen before.

I saw her as beautiful as the day I lost her.

I saw her alive.

I felt as though she were within reach.

And in that moment, something awakened inside me.

At first, it was fury.

But alongside that fury came something else.

A spark.

A promise.

A debt.

I could not end here.

Not while she still lived.

So I rose.

Not because Mephisto commanded it.

Not because I feared him.

I rose because there was still fire within me.

Infernal flames engulfed my body once more, and I showed the Demon King that I would never kneel before him again.

No more.

My soul bears his mark.

But he needs me.

And I made certain he understood that.

I have walked through the depths of Hell itself.

I have spoken with the Lord Below.

I have seen the machinery of damnation and unraveled the mysteries of the soul.

I no longer fear the darkness.

I know it from its very core.

The darkness fears me.

That is why I have returned.

I have returned because my story is not over.

My fire has not yet claimed its final victim.

The Ashen Wanderer is no more.

I am Vorath the Phoenix.

My vengeance remains unfinished.

The war is not over.

And as long as there is fire within my heart,

Hell itself shall follow in my footsteps..

At the end of our campaign, Vorath decided to retire from battle and stablished himself in the city of Kresk, where he lived the rest of his days happily with his wife Galadriel, having 2 kids, Varack and Arwen
