Submitted character story
You're a paladin who builds trust slowly, arriving in Old Yost's cart and working as the Shadow Investigator when others rushed in. What brought you back was the moment an old warrior's faith named you chosen before you believed it yourself. Now you carry the weight of that borrowed conviction, still proving to yourself what he saw in a terrified villager. Every swing of that flaming sword is both a promise kept and a question you're still answering.
Defining moment: We lived in a village of hard working people. Everything was peaceful until the night the shadow wolves came. The men fought bravely but against enemies that were hard to kill, they were losing. But seemingly out of nowhere, an old paladin appeared, swinging his holy broadsword. In a matter of minutes he cut down more wolves than the rest of the men combined. But he was indeed old, and as he tired, one wolf happen to crash into him from behind, sending him sprawling towards an oak tree that he smashed into, causing him to drop his sword in the process. I stood there and I knew that if we were all dying, I would not go quietly into the night nor let the man that tried to save us go without a fight. So I dove and grabbed his broadsword. It felt natural in my hands even as I swung wildly. The sword seemed lighter the more I used it to cut down beast after beast. I turned back to the old paladin who laid up against the tree, with smoke that seemed half amused and half in wonder. Behind him in the clearing emerged the biggest wolf I had ever seen, the Alpha. The old paladin saw my fear and said “Son fear not the dark, the Light has chosen you this day. You only need to tap into your connection with God and His light with guide you”. At his words I closed my eyes and focused on that connection. As I did the sword began to hum in my hands and glow. Sensing the impending danger, the alpha charged towards us. I ran to meet him, the sword continued to shine until the light became blindly as I swung with all of my might and heart. When the light had died down, I could see that the wolf had been cleanly cut in two. From that day forward I swore to protect people the way the Paladin had done for us, the less fortunate people….
