"story": "CHARACTER BACKSTORY:\n\nVeyra grew up in Waterdeep with her older brother, Abyss, a member of a local fighting guild, in the Sea Ward. Veyra starting working in her early teens to help with finances. The two were nearly inseparable, leaning on each other for support after their father left to live a life of adventure on the road.\n\nOn one of her sailing jobs, the crew found themselves in the path of a mighty storm, the waves smashing and pulling at the ship violently. Veyra was ripped from the deck of the ship and thrown into the torrential depths, choking and flailing as she was swept toward the eye of the storm, the impact of the waves knocking the breath she had sucked in as she lost her grip on the ropes. From the docks, lightening cracked over the scene, but for Veyra, her vision was entirely blinded by the strikes, and the searing strike of a bolt shocked her entire system... and everything went black.\n\nThen Veyra woke up, coughing and sputtering out the salt water from her lungs, surrounded by a crowd of people and a few other survivors from the wreck. Her face was scarred by the lightening that had scorched through her veins, and a longer scar ripped from her shoulder and across her abdomen down to her thigh. Abyss didn't leave her side for the duration of her recovery, but even the sense of safety he normally provided couldn't keep away the nightmares. Her nights were plagued by her memories of the storm, jolting awake and gasping for air in her bed every time she was hit by the strike. \n\nHer powers soon began to develop, as though the lightening that shot through her never truly left her- as if it remained within her, ricocheting and ready to rip through anyone she touched. Abyss showed her how to properly wrap her hands, as he had learned from his guild, and it allowed Veyra to work again. She took jobs as far into the city as could from then on, the sounds of the choppy waves not the peaceful presence it once was. Her personal life became more strained, she found, now that couldn't risk a simple touch with her hands, a curse that on her worst days she thought might not have been worth her survival. \n\nVeyra sets off now to find a cure for her curse, watching her party drink and laugh from the sidelines, afraid to get too close."
