Teddy grew up in a northern tribe of shifters, known as the Great spirit tribe. Each shifter is chosen by a spirit and gifted the powers of that animal spirit. Teddy was chosen by the bear, but unlike his peers, Teddy was not a great warrior and often would skip out on trainings to frolic through the woods. As he got older, he was not expected to train to protect the tribe anymore but was seen as just a gatherer for food and supplies. One day as an adult, the Great Spirit Tribe was attacked by the neighboring wolf tribe. Most lives were lost but one warrior by the name of Kahlan, had lost her family and as a response, she chased down the surviving wolf tribe members and slaughtered them all. Teddy had shown up just to the aftermath and seeing her covered in blood was a wake up call to him that he need to protect her. Not that they were friends at all. They merely grew up together in the tribe and she was the greatest warrior to come from their generation. She had become a leader in the tribe and had a husband and twin boys, all of which she lost to the wolf tribe. Now there was no reason or way a guy like "Teddy" could even out match a fighter like Kahlan, so the idea of him protecting her was laughable, but he knew he could not leave her, not like this. He followed her after the massacre despite her constant threats to him to leave her alone. They reached the top of the mountains where the northern lights touch the mountain and Kahlan reached out to her spirit for guidance. This is where she dropped her weapons of two axes and took up a shield. From that moment on she vowed to protect those who cannot save themselves from the monsters of the world. Teddy took up his own vow watching this to use his skills of  hiding to help protect people with her and to also watch her to make sure she stay safe. At this point Teddy and Kahlan became a monster hunting team jumping from town to town slaying monsters where ever needed. Kahlan obviously protecting Teddy most of the time than anything else. Not even just from monsters but also from women. Teddy was determined to find true love and that was not happening. After years of travel they ended up responding to help an individual that took them into a new realm ruled by a vampire. With no way out they joined up with two other adventurers also stuck in this realm to kill the vampire and free the people of Barovia. While searching for a way to beat him, They met a lady named Esmerelda and Teddy knew, she was the one. (Of course that's how he felt about almost every women he's met) but this, this one was different. During their journeys together Teddy had risked his life not only for her and the members of his party, but also his horse who he held onto dear life to when it was picked up by a giant bird. He would not let him be eaten and due to his stupidity of hanging on, the rest of the party fought hard to kill the bird, saving Teddy and his horse from ultimate death. They also ran past a werewolf den where children were being taken and Teddy ran in alone to save the kids. They had set traps that caught the outside werewolves and he of course didn't think that there would be more inside. Luckily they were able to defeat them and save the kids, even the one that was turned. Though they were in a dark and depressing world, Teddy always had a smile and looked to the bright side. He may have made a lot of stupid choices, but he always did it out of love and to protect others. Eventually by everyone's surprise, Esmerelda started to have feelings for Teddy in return and it turned out she really was his true love that he was searching so long for. After their long a grueling battle against Strahd, they won and were able to leave the domain of Barovia. They went to another domain of dread, where they continued to fight all together as a party against evil and save those that cannot save themselves. With Teddy still thinking up the most ridiculous solutions to problems that somehow work.
