Subtlety

Submitted character story

Defining moment:
Before he met his wife, he was a hired killer, taking the kinds of jobs that make most people sick but the coin was necessary to take care of his sister. She could never know what he did so he told her that he was a travelling merchant. Then he met her: his sweet wife. A cleric of Tymora. She made him a simple wager: call the coin flip. He did and lost. She told him that he had to accompany her on a mission: rescue an orphanage. The same orphanage that he was supposed to burn that night. In that moment, he chose his darling Aleria and she gave him the coin on their wedding night. He flipped it in his hands, seeing his former god on the other side and watched as it blackened. Every time he's flipped that coin since, it's always come up heads. Tymora's face. His Aleria's first gift.

Years later, after the crew that he worked with framed him for a botched heist, the people they tried to steal from found Subtlety while he was out, and his wife was killed during the skirmish. Now he has a list of names he's seeking to settle the score with.

Five years later, he joined a random group of adventurers, and instead of revenge, it became a struggle for the fate of the world. Subtlety learned much about himself during those two years, but the most valuable thing he found was Iris. And when the world was safe and the Library of Candlekeep fell into his possession, he retired there and proposed to Iris. She said yes, and now his greatest adventure has truly begun: a life with his dear wife.

Archetype: You're the The Coin's Other Face. He walks the straight path now, but the crooked one taught him how.

Personality: Has names to find. Someone framed him for a botched heist and when they came to collect, his wife paid the price. Now, he's searching for who set him up to make sure that they settle their tab with him.
