She was there when the war first broke out. Right in the very room with the ones who made the first strikes.
At a peace council, nonetheless. The druids were there as record- and peace-keepers, but the other parties in
the room vastly outnumbered their small group.
The icarians and the demirians had been at odds since the beginning of time, but things were getting to be the worst they'd been since as long as the druid elders could remember. Soleil's family had seen the peace council as a perfect opportunity to introduce her to politics and the big city. As diplomat peacekeepers, Soleil's
parents' jobs were to keep negotiations between aggressive or aggravated leaders verbal at worst, and
non-threatening at best.
The council began with introductions, even though everyone already knew who everyone was, besides the
little girl sitting on a druid diplomat's lap. Negotiations for supplies, weaponry, and trade were addressed, and each half-solution led to higher tensions between the icarians and demirians. Volumes rose, tones darkened,
language began to foul, and even the child could sense things were taking a turn for the worse. She was told to go wait outside while the adults finished talking. As she was about to leave the room, she heard the icarian
high minister stand and shout at the demirian queen. She stood and shouted back, and the room quickly fell
into chaos. Guards from each side began to draw weapons on the other, and the demirians shattered the
windows to get their advantage of flight. One of the icarian guards fell in front of Soleil and laid still. A small puddle of rusty-smelling red liquid began to pool around him. Soleil was lifted off the ground by a druid and they ran until they were out of the building and far away from the failed peace council.
Within the next two weeks, the demirians and icarians had officially declared war on one another. It was then
that the druids, the renowned peacekeepers of the world, withdrew to their forest, hiding from the rest of the world in shame of their presumed failure.
