Séverine Adlevoss

Submitted character story

A cool headed, observant Inquestor. You really don't want her looking at you like *that.*. A professional Inquestor, she's the best at what she does, and she likes it. To find actionble evidence against Fornax Miravale, aka Fornax of the Many Fingers. She has two younger brothers in Mordane, and a handful of delightful little nieces and nephews. Best you don't mess with them. She has not yet found something that valuable... but Fornax might, eventually, fit that bill. She's failed to catch Fornax twice. Once by a step. Once by a hair. Will there be a third chance? She may be a little too thorough in her search for proof.

Séverine reads rooms the way Fornax Miravale reads marks. She knows how money moves, who owes whom, which old house is three bad seasons or one bad deal from selling its name, and which guild underwrites which racket. She builds a case the way a painter paints: wash, outlinc, color, shade, *detail*. She skips nothing and assumes nothing. She may never out-think Fornax at his own art. Illusion is his genius, yet Séverine matches his rigor, and she beats him on wisdom and in reading of people. He misdirects, but she notices.

Her title, Inquestor, is the realm's word for a licensed Reclaimer: retained on commission by the guilds and insurers who stand behind the great treasures, paid to recover things that go missing, and to close the claim. She answers to the underwriters, not to the Watch, which gives her reach into the same gilded drawing rooms Fornax has bought his way into, and a temperament that leans toward restitution over punishment.
