Submitted character story
You are a protector who chose the Blackfen, learning to see truth in shadows before stepping into light. The sister who died in your arms gave you back the duty you ran from, transformed into vow. You carry the terror that your own desires could cost another life, that loving freely might mean failing fatally. Every stranger you save is both penance and promise, the kind of paladin who turns guilt into an unbreakable shield.
Defining moment: Raeliah had always been trained, as a princess of a noble kingdom of warriors and cavaliers, to become a protector of her land - even moreso as the Guardian of the Sun Goddess’s pendant and her chosen. Despite this, Raeliah felt forced into her role and often looked for a way to forge her own path and make her own memories, eventually avoiding the call to offer her body as a vessel for the goddess’s divine power. She thought she had found safety in her guard captain, a serious but self-sacrificing tiefling woman that Raeliah had begun to fall in love with. But with her duty pushed aside, she was too late returning to her homeland when it was under attack - too late to save her older sister, the acting queen, from fatal wounds inflicted by a scheming warlock looking for sacrificial noble blood. Her sister died in her arms, pushing Raeliah to swear to give herself up for her duty as a Guardian, even if it meant giving up on her own autonomy and memories to the goddess to control.
