"story": "Defining moment:\nThe moon hung low over the forest, silver light filtering through the ancient pines.\n\nIt should have been a beautiful night.\n\nOpal laughed as she followed behind her younger brother, who darted between the trees with far too much confidence for someone barely old enough to hold a wooden practice sword.\n\n“You’ll scare the owlbears away before we ever see one,” she called.\n\n“I’d win,” he shouted back.\n\nHer father snorted. “You’d trip over your own boots.”\n\nTheir mother laughed beside him, the sound warm enough to chase away the evening chill.\n\nFor once…\n\nThere were no monsters.\n\nNo prejudice.\n\nNo whispers about surface drow.\n\nJust family.\n\nJust home.\n\nThe caravan had stopped beside an old shrine to Eilistraee, where dancers had once offered songs beneath the moon. Her mother insisted they spend the night there.\n\n“It is sacred ground,” she’d said. “No better place to thank the Dark Maiden.”\n\nDinner had been simple.\n\nStories had been plentiful.\n\nHer father told the same exaggerated tale about wrestling a bugbear for the hundredth time.\n\nHer brother interrupted every few sentences to insist that next year, he would be strong enough to do it instead.\n\nOpal rolled her eyes.\n\nHer mother smiled.\n\nEverything felt… safe.\n\n⸻\n\nShe awoke to screaming.\n\nNot frightened screams.\n\nAgonized ones.\n\nThe scent hit first.\n\nSmoke.\n\nBlood.\n\nBurning canvas.\n\nHer eyes snapped open as orange fire consumed the night sky.\n\n“No…”\n\nShe scrambled from her bedroll just as an arrow slammed into the wagon behind her.\n\nAnother buried itself inches from her feet.\n\n“Opal!”\n\nHer father’s voice.\n\nShe ran.\n\nSteel flashed into her hands on instinct.\n\nA prayer spilled from her lips.\n\nMoonlight answered.\n\nSilver radiance wrapped around her blade.\n\nHer oath still held.\n\nFor now.\n\nBandits.\n\nDozens of them.\n\nSome wore masks.\n\nOthers carried torches.\n\nA few weren’t even interested in stealing.\n\nThey simply wanted the “drow filth” dead.\n\nShe crashed into the first attacker.\n\nHer sword danced.\n\nOne fell.\n\nThen another.\n\nShe wasn’t graceful.\n\nNot tonight.\n\nShe was desperate.\n\n“Mom!”\n\nA scream.\n\nHer brother.\n\nShe spun.\n\nToo late.\n\nOne of the raiders drove a spear straight through her father’s chest.\n\nEverything stopped.\n\nHer father looked at her.\n\nNot afraid.\n\nOnly sad.\n\n“Protect…”\n\nThe word never finished.\n\nHe collapsed.\n\n“DAD!”\n\nShe charged.\n\nMagic exploded from her hands.\n\nMoonfire erupted through the clearing.\n\nSeveral attackers were thrown backward.\n\nOne never stood again.\n\nAnother screamed as radiant light consumed him.\n\nStill…\n\nThere were too many.\n\nShe reached her mother just in time to catch her as she fell.\n\nWarm blood soaked through Opal’s hands.\n\nHer mother smiled despite the pain.\n\n“Little moon…”\n\n“No.”\n\n“You have to keep going.”\n\n“No.”\n\n“You dance… remember?”\n\nTears blurred Opal’s vision.\n\n“Heal,” she whispered desperately, laying glowing hands over the wound.\n\nNothing.\n\nAgain.\n\nNothing.\n\nAgain.\n\nNothing.\n\nWhy wasn’t it working?\n\n“Eilistraee…” she begged. “Please.”\n\nHer magic flickered.\n\nThen vanished.\n\nNot because the goddess had abandoned her.\n\nBecause the wound was beyond even divine healing.\n\n“No, no, no…”\n\nHer mother’s fingers brushed Opal’s cheek.\n\n“You were always meant… for more than vengeance.”\n\nThe hand fell.\n\nSilence.\n\nSomething inside Opal cracked.\n\n⸻\n\nThe battle continued around her.\n\nShe barely heard it.\n\nBarely saw it.\n\nShe only noticed when her brother stumbled toward her.\n\nCovered in blood.\n\nNot his own.\n\n“I… I’m scared.”\n\nShe threw her arms around him.\n\n“It’s alright.”\n\nIt wasn’t.\n\nAnother arrow.\n\nShe never even saw who fired it.\n\nHer brother gasped.\n\nHis body jerked in her embrace.\n\nBlood bloomed across his tunic.\n\n“No…”\n\nHe looked at her with wide, frightened eyes.\n\n“It hurts…”\n\n“I know.”\n\n“Don’t let go.”\n\n“I won’t.”\n\nHe took one shaky breath.\n\nThen another.\n\nThen none at all.\n\nOpal remained there long after the fighting ended.\n\nHolding him.\n\nUnable to move.\n\nUnable to cry.\n\nThe moon climbed higher.\n\nIts pale light bathed the clearing in silver.\n\nBodies surrounded her.\n\nFamily.\n\nFriends.\n\nNeighbors.\n\nThe shrine stood untouched.\n\nAs though the gods themselves refused to witness what had happened.\n\nArchetype: You're the The Moonlit Vow. She carries the weight of the fallen in every calculated step forward.\n\nPersonality: Running from something"
