"story": "Olivia is a drow who left the Underdark and never looked back. That's the short version. The long version involves about 180 years of pretending to be someone she wasn't, a crisis of faith that nearly killed her, and a Kobold named Rax who she'd now walk through fire for without a second thought.\n\nShe's Soulknife, which means her weapons aren't physical. They're psychic. Blades made of pure willpower that form in her hands when she needs them. It's fitting for her because everything about Olivia is internal. Her strength, her pain, her loyalty. None of it is loud. You have to pay attention to notice it.\n\nRight now she and Rax are traveling south from Neverwinter through deep winter looking for a place called Kobold's Paradise. Rax believes it exists because he read about it in a water damaged journal he found in a collapsed mine. Olivia does not believe it exists. She is going anyway because Rax asked her to and that was enough.\nShe wears practical gear. Light leather armor, a hooded cloak, pouches for survival tools. Nothing decorative.\n\nThe one exception is a silver bracelet with purple gemstones and a sigil of a crescent moon wrapped around a spider that she keeps hidden under her sleeve. It's the only thing she kept from her old life. I won't say what it means here because our DM reads everything I post and we haven't gotten to that reveal yet.\n\nThe thing about playing a drow in a surface campaign is that everyone has opinions about you before you open your mouth. Every NPC. Every shopkeeper. Every guard at every gate. Our DM plays that tension really well and it's shaped how Olivia interacts with the world. She's cautious. She watches before she speaks. She reads every room before she sits down. She's not cold, she's just careful, because being careful is how she's survived this long.\n\nBut with Rax she's different. Patient. Gentle. Almost maternal sometimes even though he's technically older than most humans when you do the kobold math. Their dynamic is the heart of the campaign for me. She protects him. He makes her laugh. It works.\n\nThis is my first real D&D campaign and Olivia is the first character I've ever made. I spent weeks on her backstory before session one and my DM told me it was the most detailed character brief he'd ever received from a new player which I'm choosing to take as a compliment and not a comment on the length. Getting her portrait commissioned was a big deal for me because I wanted to see her the way she looks in my head. And now I can. And she's perfect."
