Tiefling / Blood Hunter

Submitted character story
Defining moment:
“People always told me what I was before they ever asked who I was. A tiefling. A devil’s blood. A monster waiting to happen. I spent years proving them wrong by hunting the creatures they feared.
Then came the hunt that changed everything.
I tracked a beast through a ruined sanctuary, following the trail of blood and destruction it left behind. I expected a monster. I expected something that deserved my blade.
Instead, I found a mother dying beside her child.
The creature I had hunted was not protecting a treasure. It was protecting its last piece of the world. And as it took its final breath, it looked at me—not with hatred, not with rage—but with fear. The same fear I had seen in the eyes of those who looked at me.
I had my sword raised. I had my rite prepared. I had every reason to finish what I started.
But then the child reached for me.
Not because it knew what I was. Not because it understood my blood or my scars. It reached for me because, in that moment, I was the only thing left standing between it and a cruel world.
That was the first time I wondered if I had spent my whole life hunting monsters because I understood them… or because I was afraid I was one.
I still hunt. I still spill blood. I still carry the scars of what I do.
But I remember that child whenever the darkness tells me what I am.
A monster is not born from what runs through its veins.
A monster is born from the choices it makes.”
