There was one rule among many others that was the most well-known and well-enforced in the Cintale tribe: Do not leave the tribe’s land.

This was always Melian’s bane, as she wanted nothing more to explore the world. No—all she wanted was to explore the world and share her music. The only problem being that music was strictly banned outside of ritual practices, as it was believed that music stirred spirits.

Since Melian was next in line to be the tribe’s shaman, her mother enforced rules on her much harsher than on others. The only person she ever felt she could take solace in was her father, who understood her love of music and let her whisper songs to him in night. When cruel, cruel nature sent a dire wolf to maul him to death, she had no one left to console her. 

With nothing left to lose, she packed her bags and ran off into the night, promising to fulfill her dream of playing music that actually matters.
