Maren Ashveil

Submitted character story

Maren lost his arm in a fight he should have walked away from. He didn't. So when the voice in his head offered him a replacement he said yes without reading the fine print. Classic warlock move.

The arm he got back isn't his. It doesn't look like his. It doesn't always look like anything consistent. Depending on the situation it shifts. In combat it forms into a blade. When he casts eldritch blast it becomes this arcane cannon thing that fires from the palm and honestly the first time it happened at the table our DM described it and everyone just went 'wait what.' Sometimes when he's sleeping it does things on its own and he wakes up with objects rearranged around his bedroll. He pretends not to notice.

The heterochromia happened after the pact. One eye went red. The other stayed green. He keeps his hood up because people stare and he got tired of explaining it. The heavy gauntlet on the pact arm isn't armor, it's a restraint. He built it himself to keep the arm from doing things when he doesn't want it to. It works most of the time.

He was a nobody before he lost the arm. After he lost it he was a nobody with a grudge. After the pact he became something else and he's still figuring out what. His patron doesn't explain things. Just gives and takes and gives again and the gifts keep getting stranger.

Posted him in a facebook group once and people lost their minds over the cannon arm thing. Apparently 'warlock who doesn't trust his own hand' resonates with people. Who knew.
