Submitted character story
Lyrabelle used to believe the winter lights above Whiteglass were simply beautiful. Then her teacher, Ilyra, showed her the small changes in their pattern. The aurora was keeping an old spell in place, and the spell was beginning to fail.
The first sign in the village was a woman forgetting the name of her own house. By the next snowfall, roads led to the wrong doors. Ilyra went beneath the frozen lake to examine the spell's anchor and left Lyrabelle her notes. Only the notes came back. Their last page now fills with frost each night, sometimes in the shape of a hand.
So Lyrabelle took her turquoise book, her mother's rose-quartz pendant, and far too few warm socks. She is following scraps of the old spell through libraries and ruined observatories. She still stops to watch snow fall through lamplight. The party occasionally has to remind her that a lovely ruin can also be full of enemies.
She wants to bring Ilyra home and give Whiteglass ordinary winters again. The difficult part is a missing page. Lyrabelle tore it out before leaving because it described how to hold the spell together by taking memories from someone else. She is carrying that page anyway.
