Half-Elf / Fighter

Submitted character story
L'lora is one of those characters that has stuck with me for many years, from campaign to campaign. She started out originally in the Earhdawn setting as her first iteration, but I played her the longest in Living Greyhawk, where I spent years leveling her up and adding to her lore. She was a ranged fighter (because back in the day rangers were lame). Most recently I have been playing her in a homebrew campaign. So L'lora has been part of my gaming life for the past 30 years. The first image was drawn by my brother during L'lora's Greyhawk years. And the other image is by Wayne Reynolds which I have used to represent her from time to time.
Her current backstory:
My village was destroyed about a decade ago. I remember very little. The healers say I have blocked memories due to trauma but I think it is more than that, like something took my memories. I do remember some things; a conservatory with exotic plants and birds, a beautiful forest where I used to play and someone teaching me to use a bow.
The destruction happened at night. I "awoke", from my meditation, to fire and rubble. I don't remember hearing any sounds at all but the smell of fire and smoke were acrid in my nose. I stumbled around in my bare feet, getting singed and cut as I navigated the rubble. I could not find a single person, dead or alive. It was as if everyone left, or was taken, before the destruction took place. It was weeks before I left; gathering what food and supplies I could from the remains. The conservatory was mostly intact, where I gathered some herbs and seeds hoping they would be of use in the future. I wandered for a few years, sticking to the forest; hunting, gathering and growing what I could. Some of the seeds I had taken with me were rare and exotic, which helped me to earn some money. I was doing quite well for myself but one particular season I got caught in a terrible storm and was seriously injured. I was fortunate to run into a contingent of Dwarves making a seasonal trading run. They took me in and cared for me until I was restored to full health. To show them my appreciation, I stayed and became an apprentice to Baern Cuthammer. I learned a crafter's trade, learning stonecutting, gemcutting and leatherworking. During this period I learned how to speak the Dwarven language and worked my way up to a highly respected crafter amongst the Dwarves. I have travelled to various Dwarven enclaves to test, learn and ply my trade. There aren't too many Dwarven settlements who don't know who I am; I mean how many Elven women are there that have learned a trade from the Dwarves, let alone become good at it? The last seven years of living, working and learning with Baern, has gotten me to the point where I am to go out and get inspiration for one final creation to be considered a master. I think I will make my final piece in leather, for Baern, to show my appreciation for all he has done for me. I am thinking of making a saddle and boarding for his cherished ram mount. So I am off for discovery and adventure (as is traditional, for a dwarf do, for their final mastercraft project). What better way than to team up with a group of adventurers to gain inspiration and further knowledge. Who knows, maybe I can find out what happened to my village and family in the process.
