Kyrre Lleuyn Halvard grew up where the mountains do not care if you live or die. Serrakesh is high, cold, and unapologetic, and she was raised in it like it was normal, because to her it was.
Her father was a berserker Frostguard of Blackwatch Pass, the kind of place people only go when something is trying to come through that should not. A place to defend. He was her anchor. The one who made the world feel survivable. He laughed. He taught. He came home.
Then he did not.
He died holding the line so others could run. Serrakesh calls that honor. Kyrre calls it the moment the house got quiet.
After that, she did what Serrakesh teaches you to do. She kept going. She rode Saskia, a ridge elk big enough to break snow with her chest and stubborn enough to match Kyrre’s silence. She learned to shoot, track, carry, fix, and endure. She became useful. Useful is what people survive on when they stop being okay.
She did not fall apart. She just expanded into the space he left behind.
Somewhere in there, she met Eidrick Norran, a blacksmith. Not a soldier. Not Frostguard. The kind of man who talks about homes like they are promises you can actually keep. With him, Kyrre learned what it felt like to stop bracing for impact. To imagine a life that was not just surviving the next winter. They were betrothed to be married this summer.
Then the prophecy hit.
Spoken by the witch-prophet using her spirit name, which in Serrakesh means it is not advice anymore. It is gravity. It says she has to go south. Leave everything. Cross into unknown land. Follow something she did not choose and does not understand.
She does not want to go. She does not argue much either.
That is the problem with Kyrre. She was never built to refuse the thing that sounds like duty.
So she leaves with a bow, a ridge elk, and the weight of leaving behind the man and future she wants. And somewhere in the back of her mind, she is still trying to figure out if she is saving the world or just walking away from the only home she ever actually had.
Underneath whatever composure she can manage is a scared girl who still misses her dad and does not want to carry so much anymore.
She doesn't realize it yet, but her dad is still with her, along with other ancestral guardians.
