Kitarra

Half-Elf / Rogue

Kitarra

Submitted character story

You're the kind of rogue who rides Old Yost's Cart into danger and plays the Quiet Strategist once you arrive. What brought you back was the farmer you pulled from his barn, the villagers you saved before the poison burned through you. You know the scar on your back will never let you forget the cost of looking forward instead of watching behind. They'll remember you as the one who moved first when the shadows crept toward the innocent.

Defining moment: They all thought it was bandits again; there had been a string of them lately trying to run a racketeering scam on the local small farming villages. The usual give us so much of your crops/livestock/wares and we'll "protect" you. Several villages nearby had already been hit, so Kitarra and her team were sent ahead to get the lay of the land. All was quiet until night fell and the shadows started to move. All at once throughout the sleepy, defenseless village explosions were heard and the screams began. They all scattered, silently trying to save the villagers from burning homes and figure out what had slipped by them; surely these were not normal bandits. This was too coordinated, too precise, but why? As Kitarra pulled a farmer from his barn, she caught sight of one - a Nightborn. She'd heard the stories, who hadn't? But to see one actually creeping through the shadows, taking out innocents...her blood ran cold. Without hesitation she took aim and fired, drawing his attention away from the villagers he was creeping up on. And so it went for what seemed like hours, she and the other rogues picking off Nightborn until they had them all...they thought.
She felt it first; pain. Burning pain. They told her later the blade must have been coated with poison, that she was lucky to be alive. At the time though it was just pain and fire and she screamed from it all while the Nightborn laughed, ripping the curved, jagged blade back out of her. "Watch your back, Half-Breed." She remember him snarling at her as she lost consciousness, the others running at him. They said they never found him.
