Genasi / Illrigger

Most fire genasi burn bright. Kael burns cold. His flames are blue, his skin is ash, and the only eye he has left glows red like something that stopped being sorry a long time ago.
He started as a sellsword. Took contracts, didn't ask questions, got paid. Standard merc stuff. Then his company took a job clearing out a village on the border of the Ashenmere. Turned out the village wasn't harboring fugitives. It was harboring families. His company didn't care. Kael did. He put his blade through his captain's throat that night and walked into the mist alone.
That's where Sutekh found him. Not the other way around. You don't choose an Illrigger's patron. The patron chooses you. And Sutekh chose the merc standing in a burned village with blood on his khopesh and nowhere left to go.
Now he collects souls for a god whose face floats behind his eyelids every time he closes his one good eye. He tells himself there's a code to it. That the people he takes deserve it. Some nights he even believes that. The eyepatch isn't a war wound by the way. It's the price of the pact. Sutekh doesn't give power for free.
Our DM let me run MCDM's Illrigger class and honestly it's the most fun I've had at a table. There's something about playing a character who genuinely believes he's doing the right thing while everyone at the table is like... brother you are literally a debt collector for a dark god. He doesn't see it. That's what makes him fun to play.
