Jimbo

Black Dragonborn / Bard

Jimbo

Submitted character story

So here's the thing about Jimbo. He's a black dragon. Like an actual black dragon. Hatched from an egg, acid breath, the whole deal. But a Red Great Wyrm named Vaelstraz hit him with a True Polymorph twisted through Deep Magic before he ever got the chance to be one. Trapped him in a dragonborn body. Gave him a Choice instead of a destiny.

And what did a newborn black dragon choose to do with free will?

He became a metalhead.

I'm not kidding. His arcane focus is a witch battery powered electric guitar called Zoltan's Axe of Shredding. It doubles as a battle axe. He's College of Whispers but he shreds like he's College of Get Out Of My Way. He wears torn jeans and a beat up band tee and a leather vest and his utility belt looks like Batman went to a renaissance faire. He's 7 feet tall with functional wings and a tail and one of his horns is broken off at the base because that's what happens when you adventure for three years straight without slowing down.

His soul is fractured. One half is the dragon he was born as. The other half is the dragonborn he was forced into. The voices don't always agree. Think Deadpool if Deadpool was also Deathwing from WoW and also really into Five Finger Death Punch. There is a cog missing somewhere in the machine and Jimbo knows it and he does not care.

But here's what gets me about him. For all the chaos in his head, this guy has a code. He has zero tolerance for slavery. He has committed and will continue to commit war crimes to end it. He adopted a black dragonborn daughter who was originally enslaved and she is the single most important thing in his entire multiverse. He calls Bahamut 'Grandfather.' He calls Tiamat 'Grandmother.' He calls his nemesis Vaelstraz 'Uncle.' He's borderline obsessed with his draconic bloodline and honestly? Fair. If I found out my family tree included actual gods and ancient wyrms I'd be weird about it too.

Right now he's captaining a spelljammer called The Butcher while our party tries to save the multiverse from a being that eats reality itself. He's also composing something called the Elegy of the First World and it's caught the attention of both Bahamut AND Tiamat which is. Fine. Everything is fine.

He's the most unhinged character I've ever played and I've been at this table for going on four years. I would genuinely take a bullet for this fictional lizard man.
