"story": "Iphra Janri is a fel (catfolk) witch on a quest for his true origin. The descendent of a familiar who severed her bonds and link, He seeks to find the witch who used to hold the other end, if they still live. His search has led him across the known world, and may well require crossing other, unknown worlds. Iphra intends to answer his questions and sate his curiosity, even if it takes the rest of his nine lives.\n\nIphra has no pact like a warlock, and no real patron like many witches. Iphra is entangled with Fortune itself; the essense that controls - or fail to control - Fate, and Luck. The hidden order within chaos itself. It's not a very easy or comfortable thing to think about, so Iphra usually doesn't. What's behind the next door is much, much more interesting. Iphra is, he will be the first to admit, unnaturally lucky himself. Except when he isn't. It will not stop him, however.\n\nIphra comes from the Hosrusra tribe of Fel (Catfolk) from the Cormanthor forest, a section of dense temperate woods not far from the intersection of Moonsea Ride and the Ordulin-Hillsfar road, and thus with some fair contact and trade with the nearby cities/kingdoms as a result. The matriarchal tribe numbers a few hundred, and marks four or five square miles of forest as their territory, which they have occupied for over 5 generations (farther back than anyone but the shamans and a couple elders care to remember).\n Iphra’s immediate family are members in good standing of the tribe; father is a hunter/tanner, mother a huntress/councilmember, and he has two older sisters who seem to be following their mother’s path. Iphra, however, spent his early life much more curious about the outside world, which, along with budding arcane abilities, and odd twists of fortune, convinced the shamans that the lineage and legacy of his great grandmother was finally showing after generations of dormancy.\n Janri, Iphra’s great grandmother by matriarchal lineage, so the lore goes, was born a full-blooded cat in the world of men. Janri was a Witch’s familiar. The Witch’s name is Eina Vohsen, but neither Iphra, nor any of his family or community know that name. Who the Witch was, and how powerful she was isn’t known, but, like many Familiars, Janri was the focus/channel of many of the Witch's spells and magic, and through a long association, the familiar harbored and manifested a growing amount of power of her own – in service to her mistress, naturally. At some point, Eina sent Janri off on a search for a rare item needed for a new, powerful Hex. The story is unclear whether what the item was exactly. Perhaps it was too large or cumbersome for a cat to carry. Perhaps there was some other reason, but whatever it was, Eina shape-changed Janri to humanoid form for the purpose of the quest. The change wasn’t specifically to Fel form, since all Eina cared about was sufficient size and carrying ability, but, because Janri was a cat, she ended up pretty much exactly a Fel - perhaps a little more catlike in appearance than most. On the trail of her task, which proved much more difficult than initially expected, the shape-changed Familiar encountered a small band of travelers – a questing group that included Iphra’s great grandfather Rannan, the party’s shaman (essentially a forest druid, with tribal magic thrown in). \n Through the course of a long adventure (the stories are unclear whether the pair began at cross-purpose), Janri and Rannan fell in love and, at great peril, together broke Janri’s Familiar bond with the Eina, nearly killing them both. Or… it was some other near-catastrophe that broke the bond. The stories are muddy, in part because the impact of that break erased the knowledge and memory of Eina from Janri’s mind. She could remember neither the name nor location of her former mistress – and had no particular desire to restore those memories. It’s unknown what effect, if any, it had on the Witch. \n After recovering from the split, Janri manifested little magic ability over the rest of her life – though she was sensitive to its presence and seemed to have a dampening effect on magic in her vicinity. And Janri’s life was unnaturally long, living well into Iphra’s youth. The tribal shamans felt that there might be some kind of magic link down Janri’s lineage, but nothing of the sort manifested until Iphra was born. The fact Iphra’s and Janri’s eyes were the same color – a grass-green lighter than the greens of the forest canopy and underbrush – was thought to be portentous at the time of Iphra’s birth, and as Iphra grew towards adulthood, the signs continued to mount.\n Iphra is insatiably curious about the greater world, and from the first time as a cub hearing the stories of his family, he’s been driven to find out whether the Witch who 'owned' his great grandmother is still alive - and whether she is a friend or enemy. This desire led him to leave home and venture into the world of Men. He was almost immediately sidetracked from his quest by a series of increasingly dangerous adventures with a set of companions who revived the mantle of the Scions of Blood and Blade, entangling in the plot of a godling to usurp his brother in the taking of his patron deity's throne. That quest may not yet be complete, but as those stormclouds may or may not gather, Iphra has been drawn back to his original path.\n The quest is not without some trepidation. Iphra is uncertain about what “success” would actually mean, should it ever happen. Will it result in his ‘enslavement’ as a Familiar, or the loss of his magical power, or an irrevocable transformation into a small-cat? Or will the possible reunion be like finding a soulmate or partner? Will the discovery sate his driving curiosity about the world?"
