"story": "CHARACTER BACKSTORY:\n\nI was born on the 7th of Sydenstar (High Summer), to Dakath, a high-elf noble in Emon, and Arel, a human healer that grew up on the outskirts of the city. Dakath spent most days in the Erudite Quarter working with the Alabaster Lyceum, often spending long hours in meetings with the researchers and artificers. Arel spent most of her adult life volunteering in the Temple and Military districts as a cleric and healer of Sarenrae.\n\nMy father had always thought illusion was a waste and was outwardly vocal on the subject, so when I was a teenager and my mother found me in my room casting rudimentary illusion magic, she kept it our secret. She always said my magic was beautiful. Soon after her thirty-ninth birthday, my mother died giving birth to my brother, Aeon, who my father was told also did not make it. Part of me blames my brother for the death of my mother, the other part feels guilty; maybe if I had been a cleric like herself, or as calculated and accomplished as my father, I could've saved her. \n\nSoon after my mother’s death, my father sent me to learn evocation magic at the Alabaster Lyceum. He’d always been pretty distant but he seemed to want little to do with me once I was at the school. I used to feel angry that he never gave me the time of day, but I learned to channel that anger into my studies. I kept mostly to myself in school, and at first, I took my studies seriously, but after a few years it became clear to me that I wasn’t one of the chosen ones that would actually get to learn the real stuff. By the end there, I was blatantly speaking out against the school for holding me back and I left. \n\nRight as I was on my way out of town, a currier hailed me down, and handed me a letter that was simply addressed “Fuse.” My brow furrowed, who would be sending me a letter? It’s not like I had many friends and my father certainly wasn’t going to waste his time with a letter. Mei and Sage might, but there’s no way they would’ve known I was leaving so suddenly. As soon as I was past the city gates I opened it. The parchment was ivory colored and seemed oddly... sparkly? Strange. It wasn’t signed, but the writer of the letter seemed to know my plans to ditch town and asked me to meet them in Westrunn, at the Sunkissed Tavern and Inn, and to ask for a room “facing the rising moon.” The note closed with the line: “come as soon as you can make it, I’ll be waiting.” I didn’t really have any direction, I realized, looking back towards the city. I’d been to Westruun before but not since I was really little. I supposed since I was already humoring my impulses, I figured it couldn’t hurt. Surely if the writer was someone from the school or someone my dad knew they wouldn’t want me to get that far from Emon, so it seemed safe enough. With a final glance back, I shrugged my pack higher up my shoulder, patted Asari, and made my way to the Shoreline Farms in search of a ride. \n\nAs the sun came up on my last day of travel, I could see Westruun on the horizon, and by sunset, I was in the city and walking up to the tavern keep of the Sunkissed Inn, letter in hand.\n\nSince the letter had said “I’ll be waiting,” I expected someone to be within the chambers, but when I knocked and opened the door, I found nothing but the shimmering illusion of a silvery-blue arrow on the pillow. It seemed to glow under the moonlight washing in through the window. I walked up and reached for it, and just as I thought I felt the cold, metallic rod beneath my fingers, it disappeared. \n\nI checked the room for any new notes and waited for the note’s writer to show up for a while, but no one ever came. Confused and frustrated and weary from my travels, I resigned for the night, laying Asari down on the windowsill and burrowing myself under the blanket. Unlike most nights, where I spend half the night staring at the ceiling above me, I managed to doze off unusually fast. \n\nThe black nothingness behind my eyelids slowly shifted into an ocean of blues, swirling and shimmering and spinning; I’ve never been this conscious in sleep before… I felt my body drop slightly and my feet kissed the ground- it felt like I was sinking in that ocean and then, with a solitary blink, I was fully conscious of the scene around me: there was a lake - or maybe it was an ocean - below the cliff I found myself standing on. When a soft voice found my ears, I flinched- usually I can tell when someone is behind me. I shot a look back to find nothing but the light of the moon illuminating a line of trees. \n\n“Jump,” she said, as I searched around me trying to find the source of this seemingly directionless voice. Was it coming from inside my mind? \n\n“Jump,” everything was so still, not a soul in sight.\nI looked down at the water below me. “Jump?! What are you, crazy?” I exclaimed, grimacing at the jagged cliffside as I forced myself to take a careful step forward.\n\n“Jump.” this time the voice seemed like it was losing patience. \n\nI gingerly took another step forward, feeling the earth give the slightest bit under my foot. “You can't be serious.” As I whispered this, I felt something tickle my wrist, and I looked down, eyes wide, to find my wrists were being wrapped in shimmering blue ribbons. They pulled me towards the edge. \n\n“Stop! What are you doing?” I shouted before I felt a sharp tug forward. My eyes snapped shut as I braced myself for the bladed granite and basalt that was about to rip me apart, but then... nothing. \n\nI peeked out behind my eyelids, confused. I was floating. I looked down at my wrists still wrapped in blue, the fabric was snaked across my arm now and I could feel it moving up my shoulder towards my neck where Asari likes to wrap herself. \n\n“Fly.” the voice boomed now, I looked up to find myself surrounded by a sea of stars and nothing but a giant, silver moon filling my vision. \n\nAnd then I woke up.\n\n\nCHARACTER APPEARANCE:\n\nFuse is a lean, half-elf male with light tan skin who stands at 5’6”. He has bright purple eyes and always wears earth-toned tunics, scarves, and pants. Despite his clothes being meticulously neat and clean, he has disheveled looking white hair that is constantly getting in his face. His blue snake familiar, Asari (fey) is usually wrapped around his shoulders and napping at every opportunity; she is known to blip your nose if she likes you. \n\nAs far as personality, Fuse has that awkwardly charming soft boy thing going for him, and is intelligent and quick thinking. He is very animated in the way he talks and has a very active imagination. If you took a look at his spell book, he has hilarious cartoon drawings scribbled in next to his spells. The pictures range from drawings of grass with dew on it, cartoons of himself stabbing creatures that have almost killed him in the past, and you might even find a few hearts with some “CR+FV” written super small where he thinks no one would notice. \n\nOn that note, any sort of romance or flirting will make him blush and he is fairly bad at hiding his emotions in that regard. However, when it comes to people he cares about, he is fiercely protective and will put his own noodle boy life on the line if he thinks he can save someone."
