"story": "As the sun rose on August 14th, 2545, Evindral Olaryn was born to Prince Thallan and Princess Velatha Olaryn in Rillian on the small continent of Jarcai. The King and Queen were ecstatic to welcome an heir, a boy that would carry the Olaryn legacy centuries into the future. A second child was born six years later; a daughter, whom they named Ereynia. Ereynia was perfect. Despite not being the heir, she excelled in her studies and embodied the grace and wisdom expected of royalty. Evindral, however, was drawn towards another path— one of a warrior, one of action and strength. Combat excited him far more than his studies or courtly life ever did. Although his parents were more understanding and affectionate than his cold, image-conscious grandparents, Thallan and Velatha were constrained by their royal obligations and were forced to hold their son accountable.\n\nSince childhood, Evindral frequently felt like an outsider in the court. He far preferred the sound of steel clashing to diplomatic conversations or droning lectures. He frequently avoided his royal responsibilities and slept through his studies, which caused a distinct rift between him and his grandparents. Even his sister was soured on him due to the way he acted. The way the king and queen felt about their grandson was hardly a secret, although it was less recognized outside the walls of the palace. Despite his stubborn attitude, Evindral only sought his family’s approval. He pretended it did not bother him, maintaining his carefree attitude regarding his treatment by his family, but deep down, it wore on him. His grandparents’ consistent disapproval, his sister’s incessant bossiness and condescension… it was all too much. And so, Evindral focused on his training, keeping his mind on things that made him feel worthy in some capacity rather than what kept him in the shadow of his sister.\n\nSeeing Evindral's potential, his parents arranged for him to train under a master swordsman to learn the way of the samauri; an ancient warrior discipline valued for its precision and control. If their son refused to learn the qualities he needed to grasp in the traditional method, they figured having him learn through a discipline he loved would befit him far better. Through years of grueling training, Evindral honed his skills and earned respect from his mentor, Ren Clearmont, and his parents, but he still never truly felt he belonged between the expectations of his grandparents and the contemptuousness of his sister. Still, despite his lack of any magical capabilities and having a mind for battle instead of diplomacy, Evindral held his head high. He would not let his family’s opinion of him stop him from doing what he was passionate about— he was far too headstrong for that.\n\n\nAnd yet, to those outside of the Olaryn family, Evindral was seen as magnetic and charming. The people of Rillian adored the young heir for his outward charisma and beauty, yet, he was untouchable due to his status. It was difficult for Evindral to make friends outside the castle, as it seemed to him that no one wanted to get to know the man beneath the title. There was an ever-present expectation from everyone around him that he could not escape no matter how hard he tried. Thus, for over a century, he never had the opportunity to develop a true, deep connection with anyone.\n\n\nEvindral continued to focus on turning himself into a warrior worthy of his name. His efforts eventually afforded him a medium-ranking position on the Rillian guard, which was decided reluctantly by the king after being persuaded by his son. He loved getting to train with the other guards and having the opportunity to protect his people if he needed to, but he struggled significantly when needing to stand post for hours at a time. Evindral was always looking for someone to help, some way to prove that he was not a disappointment, so ultimately, when he saw someone in apparent need, he recklessly abandoned his post, validating King Thaduceus’ worries.\n\nBefore Evindral could recognize the whole thing was a ruse, thieves had already seized the opportunity to steal a precious artifact from the royal vault; a green pendant said to hold the wisdom of the ancient elven kings. The scandal sent shockwaves through the court, and the king and queen, ever focused on appearances and political power, prepared to make an example of him. However, Thallan intervened with a proposal— a chance to vindicate his son. Castel Drayden, the mayor of the western trade city Gastrel, had written to Thallan about troubling rumors in the city’s western regions, requesting aid. Instead of punishment, Evindral was sent to Gastrel to investigate, sent with a magical ring given to him by his mother to improve upon his diplomacy skills. It was an opportunity to clear his name, to prove his worth, and to redeem himself in the eyes of his family. Perhaps it would even lead to being reinstated to the Rillian guard, where he could continue to aid his people in the only way he knew how.\n\nWhen Evindral arrived in Gastrel, he realized the situation was far more dire than it was previously thought to be. Something terrible was brewing in the west, and it threatened to swallow the island of Jarcai whole. Cautious from his past mistakes, he approached the investigation with as much restraint as possible, keeping his recklessness at bay with a determination to uncover the truth. It was possible that the journey to Gastrel would be his opportunity to forge a new legacy for himself— one not in the shadow of his sister, but of his own making. It seemed natural for Evindral to take up a leader-like role amongst the group he found himself in, somehow the voice of reason in the midst of chaos. He was hesitant in standing up as the leader he was destined to be, but he was effective and he was brilliant.\n\n\nAs the western conflict unfolded, the deaths of his grandparents brought him back to Rillian with his new friends; Violet and Nyx Evenshroud, and Aini. There, he uncovered truths about his family that had been hidden from him his whole life. Castel Drayden, who Evindral watched die on the streets of Gastrel, was his half-brother, a bastard child born out of an apparent affair, and he also had an ancestor who destroyed the very adversary they faced now— an ancestor erased from the Olaryn family line because he was exactly the way Evindral was… headstrong, stubborn, and authentically himself. As he faced the pressures of becoming the crowned Prince of Rillian, Evindral and his friends set out to destroy Ahmodeus, wielding the very sword that felled him centuries ago— Tarron Olaryn’s sword, Obsidian Wrath. Before departing, Evindral was surprised to connect with Eryenia in a way they never had before, as the pair were worried they may have said their final goodbye.\n\nEvindral managed to destroy Ahmodeus with the help of Violet and Aini, but unfortunately, a ritual was already unfolding. The archdevil Asmodeus, who thanked the group for slaying a so-called nuisance, informed them that the continent of Jarcai was being pulled into the Hells and there was no way to stop it. After saying their reluctant goodbyes, especially to Violet, whom he had developed an admiration for, Evindral was teleported to Rillian to begin getting his people to safety. \n\nSoon enough, the people of Jarcai called the continent of Riswyn home. The citizens of Rillian established a settlement they called New Rillian, and Thallan and Veletha renounced the monarchy to make room for a council, where more than just one man’s opinion would be heard. Evindral was freed from his duties at long last, although he could not help but feel a deep sense of sorrow for what he and his family had lost. Despite that, He felt as though he had finally proved himself— to his family, and most importantly, to himself. He knew that, if they were alive to see him, even his grandparents would be proud of the man he’d become."
