Defining moment:
It began the night the villagers and hunters came for his pack.
He was young. Too young to understand what was happening. The hunters came with torches and spears, with bows strung tight and prayers to gods he did not know. They came for the white-furred thing that walked like a man. They came for the wolves.

The voice roared.
He doesn't remember the killing. He doesn't remember the screams. He only remembers waking days later, surrounded by bodies. Hunters. Villagers. Anyone who had been there. His hands were raw. His claws were broken. His mouth tasted like copper.

Not her body. Not her fur.
Her blood.
It was on all of them. Every single one. They had stood by while she died. Some had held the torches. Some had cheered. Some had done nothing at all—and that was enough.
He followed the scent through the village. Door to door. House to house. He killed everyone who carried it. By dawn, the snow was red, and the name was born.
The Feral Winter.
