Defining moment:
Before becoming an independent contractor, Cayde served with the Flaming Fist as a mercenary during a time when the organization was still known more for taking contracts than acting as Baldur's Gate's standing army. The experience taught him discipline, logistics, and the value of a reputation, but it also convinced him that rigid chains of command weren't for him. He eventually left to make his own name, believing that a person's word should be worth more than any banner they serve.
As a freelance mercenary, Cayde built a reputation for accepting the jobs others avoided—not because they paid the most, but because they demanded ingenuity. Over the years, he became known as "The Silver Coin," a contractor whose success came from preparation, adaptability, and always honoring a deal.
His personal code became just as famous as his skill:
A contract accepted is a contract fulfilled.
Never kill women unless they are actively threatening innocent lives.
Never kidnap or ransom children.
His constant companion is his meticulously maintained custom light crossbow, a weapon as recognizable as its owner. Alongside his long dirk and explorer's kit, it symbolizes the professionalism that has earned him the respect of clients and fellow mercenaries alike.
