Cautious is thought personified. Emotion stripped away, instinct pushed away in pursuit of cold calculation. Cautious decides the risk, mitigates concern, explains away doubt and despair. Categorizing emotion as something to study rather than something to feel. He takes instinct and decides whether it should be let loose or whether thought should prevail.

When Eldest's mind shattered he felt it, even if he was unsure of what exactly had happened. The bonds with his brothers and sisters went hollow, turned into a dull ache in his mind he couldn't name, and that bothered him, he always understood, and it wasn't good when he didn't. Finding a figurine and the dagger he knows carved it he searches, calmly, methodically, cautiously, to find and fill the bonds that are missing. For the only reason that matters, he must understand, because if he doesn't hold all the variables, then he can't fully plan.
