Dreylock was a rogue assassin obsessed with power.  He rose to become more fiendish using magic and challenging the elder members of his line and stealing their fiendish essence.  In a mission to take back a city infested with demons Dreylock managed to sneak inside the portal, found the patriarch of his line in the abyss, a fallen planetar, and used the same magic ritual to take the power and used it to defeat the infestation.  Upon rising to a powerful fallen form he set his eyes on the next logical step, godhood.  Eventually the seals keeping the gods sealed away from the prime material plan were broken and Dreylock saw opportunity.  He slayed the lesser god Ulsharif and took his sword life drinker.  The sword bonded to Dreylock as he absorbed Ulsharif’s divine essence and enslaved him.  Today he sits as lord and master of the abyss.
