Amissus

Submitted character story

Defining moment:
It was late at night, as the celebrations for her younger sisters coming of age are beginning to die down, Amissus is wandering alone through the lush garden atrium. She was admiring a blooming starlette lily when laughter erupted behind her. Amissus released a tired sigh, recognizing the voices, and began turning to walk away when someone grabbed her hair. As her head yanked back, she was forced to her knees, to look into the golden eyes of her younger sister. Her other siblings were there too, each holding a sculpted etched crystal flute of elvin wine, dark sneers and ugly grins on their faces. They began ripping at her elegant dark sapphire blue evening gown, slapping her face and kicking her body. They ripped her head around, yanking her hair out and tangling it beyond repair, all while they laughed, mocking her for being a disappointment to their parents, a disgrace to the family line, for being a mix bred whore staining their legacy, that she was no longer needed to pass on the family line. The sound of something shattering was drowned out beneath their obnoxious voices. A sharp and sudden pain laced through Amissus’ upper back, just below her shoulder blade, causing her to gasp. All went silent before another shattering echoed through the atrium. Someone began to laugh, or cry, she couldn’t tell, not when pain raced up her body from the front. She wasn’t able to see what was happening to her body, only feel, as her head was held tightly back and forced her to look at the night sky above, at the flickering stars and the faint wisps of aurora dancing between them. Something wet and warm trickled down her face, stinging scrapes and cuts along its path. She wanted to scream, to call for help, but the air had been stolen from her lungs by a heavy kick. She knew no one would help her anyway. The kick had forced her to the ground, now laying in her side as someone let her hair go, or what was left of it. She pleaded with her siblings, who before now had left her alone for the most part for years, asking why they were doing this, begging them to stop. Her only answer was someone stabbing her back, lower, making her scream in pain. Her younger sister leaned down then, the broken body of her wine glass, pained red around the rim, brandished in Amissus face as she spat down at her.

“You’re not my family, halfling whore. You were only a place holder until I was old enough. Now you're redundant. Today was always going to be your last…” The younger sister stood, snarling down at Amissus as she drew her leg back, aiming for Amissus head. Her elegantly embezzled slipper came rushing at Amissus head when…
